Acne/Acne Scarring

If you are struggling with acne scars or persistent acne, we can help.

Acne. We’ve all had it at some point in our lives. Usually, the worst of it comes in our teenage years, and though it’s not pleasant, we get past it. But perhaps your complexion issues are more widespread and pervasive than normal. Or maybe you’re a little bit older and still dealing with persistent acne or worse yet, scarring. In these cases, you may need a more effective solution than simply face washing or treatment creams.

What Is Acne?

Acne refers to the red, raised bumps (or black or white raised bumps in the case of blackheads and whiteheads), that occur on the skin. They happen when sebum, a necessary skin oil, gets mixed with dirt, dead skin cells and other skin debris and clogs up a pore. Usually, pimples fade over time, especially if you treat it with frequent washing with soap and water or over-the-counter medication.

How Do Acne Scars Occur?

Acne scarring can occur in cases of severe acne when the body rapidly releases collagen to try to combat the damage. This may thicken the area around the pimple, which can lead to jagged, indented scars (“icepick” or “boxcar” scars) or raised, bumpy scars. Scars, unfortunately, do not disappear with soap and water or OTC medication. Reducing the appearance of scars requires medical intervention.

At Aspire Skin + Wellness, we have a number of treatments for scarring. Our Clear + Brilliant laser, MegaPeel®, microdermabrasion and chemical peels are all non-invasive, non-surgical methods of safely removing the top layer of damaged skin, stimulating collagen production and allowing younger, smoother skin to surface.
